Summer tyres
A summer compound is made for warm roads: it stays firmer and grips dry and wet tarmac better than a winter or all-season tyre.
The minimum tread depth for a summer tyre is 1.6 mm. Switch back from winter tyres once the risk of night frost has passed — a summer tyre is dangerous on a cold road.
The EU tyre label shows fuel efficiency, wet grip and pass-by noise. The wet-grip class affects braking distance in rain most of all, so it is the one to watch.
